Catching up

Ok, so I haven't posted in a while so I need to catch up!!

Well alot has happened in the past few months, especially for my Mom and Glen! Glen had to have hip replacement surgery and that went ok. About a week after he got home, he sat down in a chair and popped it out and had to be taken by ambulance to the hospital. That got taken care of, then Mom told me that he passed out in the kitchen one evening. Thankfully Ryan has been there with Momma to help out.

Then Glen started bleeding from his incision and went back to the hospital. Turns out he had contracted a staff infection that was pretty bad. Bad enough that he was going to have to stay in the hospital for about 6 weeks to take some really strong antibiotics. He was due to get out on July 4th, but that's not going to happen now.

A couple of weeks ago, he ended up with pnuemonia. He had gotten over that and seemed to be doing fine when last Monday morning (6/25/07)Mom gets a call from the hospital and Glen was put in CCU on a ventilator and was kept sedated. On Tuesday, he was in critical condition and my aunt Venita told me that it was really serious and that I should come so that I could at least get to say goodbye to him. So I made plans to come and left word with everyone at work that I woud probably not be back that week.

I called Mom that evening and she told me not to come because he was starting to do better and since the weather was so bad, she would worry more about me being on the road by myself. We agreed that I would wait until the morning and see how he did during the night and if there were any changes she would call me immediately. I waited at home until I talked to her, and Glen had actually improved some during the night. He was able to nod his head and understand what she was saying to him.

Momma still didn't want me driving up there so I agreed not to. I wanted to be there with her if nothing else but to put my arm around her and to see Glen and let him know that I loved him. But the last thing I wanted was to give Momma something else to worry about. I'm not the best driver in the world and Momma and Glen both know that! lol Glen especially, as he's had to pull me out of a ditch in the pouring rain in the middle of the night!

So as of Saturday, Glen is still improving! They have lowered the breaths of the ventilator to 8 and he's doing about 10 on his own. Hopefully they will remove it soon! We may try and go home next weekend to see him. Chris' family had already planned to come down here for vacation so we stayed here this weekend since Glen was doing so much better.

Thank all of you for your prayers and support!

I'll keep everyone posted!

Photos of Ryan

Well for those of you that don't already know it, Ryan is here with us for a while. A short while!

Of course anyone that know's him, knows how he attracts people, so it's no wonder he found a girl. While taking his GED of all things.

She came to our house this past Saturday and ate steaks with us. She's really sweet. She brought me pink roses as a thank you! I took some pictures of them so they could put them on their myspace account.

Then I took some today of just Ryan. He thinks he's such a stud.

Been a while!

I haven't posted in while. Wish I could say I was busy, but I was just being lazy!
Well, we've been a little busy, lol. We went home for Thanksgiving. Took only 5 hours to cross into Louisiana. It takes 6.5 hrs to get up to Monroe, but it took us 5 hrs to go straight across the state, then another 2 hrs to get to Alexandria. We stayed at the hotel with Daddy and Patsey when we got in around midnight Wednesday. On Thursday, we went to my uncle Marty's place where the Jones family gathers for Thanksgiving every year. It was so nice to see everyone and I wish that we could have stayed longer and heard the guitar playing and the singing. The Jones' sure are a talented bunch!! There is always so much food, laughter and love there every year. Chris and I both love going there for Thanksgiving.

I'll post some photos of the day.

After we left the Jones', we went to Chris' mom and dad's. By the time we got there, the family had left, but they left us food!! haha We also learned some sad news that Chris' cousin Paul and his wife had lost their baby. I hope that everyone will say a pray for Paul and Jennifer to help ease them through this loss.

It was kinda quiet at the Caples household. That's a suprise, huh! Well it wasn't because they wanted to be quiet......they were sick! And I brought it home with me!! Poor Janice was so sick, I felt so bad for her. We came home that Sunday, and I promptly got sick as a dog. Missed work on Monday, and went home for lunch on Tuesday and went to sleep on the couch and woke up 2 hrs later!! Good thing my boss knew I was sick and understood!

So, the Caples visit didn't really go as planned, so I hope that when we come back for Christmas we'll all be well!! I want to ride and see the lights in Calhoun again! I'm ready for Christmas!!

A visit from my Mom

Saturday after my workshop with Jerry Avenaim, Chris and I headed to San Antonio to pick up my mom. Momma and her cousin Barbara flew down to see Brenda, Barbara's sister. After meeting up with them at Brenda's apartment, we went to eat at Mamacitas Mexican restaurant.

They embarassed me by telling the staff it was my birthday so the could humiliate me by singing to me while I was wearing that stupid hat. It's a good thing that I was drinking my second margarita so I didn't feel the total humiliation! haha No, I don't have a picture of it either.

Sunday, we went riding around, showing Mom the area. We stopped at a local park and Chris wanted to show us how manly he was by wrestling a long horn bull.

I think the long horn won.

We walked around on the bed of the river where you could see the ruts made by the wagon wheels from way back when. This was a trail that was well traveled.

This the rock that Round Rock got it's name from. It was used as a way to measure how deep the river was.

We had a great time, Chris only got us lost once. Chris made his famous steaks for us that night! Personally, I think his steaks are worth the 7 hour drive to come see us!! haha

Monday, I took off work so I could spend the day with Momma. We spent the day looking at paint and carpet samples, then Chris, Mom and I headed to San Marcus where we met up with Brenda and Barbara. I'm so glad my mom got to come down and spend my birthday with me.

Between my mom coming and the amazing workshop that my wonderful husband gave to me, turning 40 was not nearly as bad as I was expecting. I'm actually proud to say that I'm 40!

Workshop with Jerry Avenaim

On Friday the 13th I had the evening workshop with Jerry Avenaim. This was the early birthday present from Chris. It was great! I learned alot at the evening seminar. He showed us some of his work, and told us how he acheived that shot. Gave away alot of his secrets. I really admire him for that. I've met some photographers that don't want to share what they know at all. I don't know all there is to know, and probably never will, but I share what I do know with others.

The saturday workshop was a "hands-on" experience. Jerry set up the lighting for the shots, told us how he would meter, what settings he would use, shot off a few shots, then gave each of us a turn shooting the models. The models were in lingerie, which made the guys that were at the workshop very happy. I wasn't embarassed by the models clothing, but I was uncomfortable telling her how to pose.

I took a few shots of the model using the settings that I would normally use so that I could compare it when using the lighting and the new settings. The difference was HUGE! I'll post some photos, but I'm warning you now about the lingerie.

Here is one using the normal settings with no light (the way I normally shoot)

This is the one using Jerry's light set up and the settings that he would use with his camera

I met a very nice guy there by the name of Duane Allen Clark. He was kind enough to take a few shots of me while I was photographing the model.

here is a photo of me with Jerry Avenaim
